Seeking help from a counsellor might seem a bit daunting if you have never been before
So I’m going to give you a little insight into what you can expect
Making the initial decision can be the hardest part, admitting you might need help is the first step to changing things, especially if it is consistently affecting your daily life .
Choosing your therapist is also important, as 60% of the success of therapy is based on the rapport between client and counsellor
After choosing a therapist, you can book online , or over the phone , depending on what you prefer
At your first session, the counsellor will explain confidentiality, security of records, timing of sessions, and any contractual obligations.
The counsellor will ask a few questions about you, your situation, and what you hope to achieve.
It is not about the therapist just telling you what to do, but about uncovering where you think obstacles may be blocking progress ,or thought processes that have created issues .
Self awareness is the beginning of changes for the better.
Upon reflection of these circumstances raised, the therapist will collaborate with you to plan and determine a positive way forward. This may even include techniques or methods designed to improve your coping skills
This will be in a way that is best for you, your abilities, and your goals.
Your therapist will then arrange a next appointment, where you will discuss progress, achievements and any changes.
